These are blanks cut in cross cut.

These blanks were cut from very old Red Gum cattle-yard posts, that some of the first Chinese Colony migrants moved into this town and created what has been called "The Chinese Vegetable farm".  In the day all constructions including the farmhouse and shed were made with Red Gum wood cut from large trees abundant in this area at that time (1850's), near the farmhouse they built a cattle yard with large Red Gum posts (10"x8" and 10"x10") as the main beams but about 20 years ago, those posts were removed and taken to the middle of the holding paddock and buried under the send (all send around here).

In one of my many visits to that farm, I discover some of the logs that after all these years started to protrude from the send, the grass was short so I endup digging them all and bring them home.

It's amazing that after all these years even after buried under send didn't affect the wood that much, off-course the wood show well the weathering of 100 + years as yard posts, being under the send endup protecting the wood so cutting through these posts the first inch or so in weathered but inside is as new/fresh as it was a year ago, unbelievable.  The age of this wood was estimated at 150 years since cut from mature trees that would be then about 300+ years old.

NOTE: Blanks have one face waxed for colour enhancement, allowing the true colours to be visible...!
