An interesting tree that I cut late 2013, from a house that was sold at that time.  The new owner had other ideas for the large yard and the trees that were planted in there, everything was overgrown and not letting much sun shine through, where they wanted it, and that was, in an area where they wanted to put a swimming pool.

These tree species are quite messy, the juicy berries do stain everything, not suitable for humans, some birds love them and there is when the big mess starts, the birds shake the berries bunches so that the ripe ones fall down and then, they fly to the ground to eat them but, in the mean time, many berries that aren't ripe, also fall to the ground, walking over they squash and squirt everywhere. This tree has also grown embedded in a fence that needed replacement so, the tree was doomed to come out...!

I had seen these trees before but, I didn't know its name so, after I cut if down I processed some of its green wood and put it to dry, this tree species became #79 on my "Timber List" under the name, "Red fruit small bunches tree", this was to remind me what the tree was.  Only a very small number of these blanks were sold in the first year, and they went to the large mix packs where I put one blank of each of my woods so, those where microwave tried to be part of those packs.

Only recently, the blanks seem to be dried enough, to be finished properly and to become part of the stock of this store, and that was when I searched for its proper name "Coton Easter Berry tree"...!

These first blanks did move a lot while drying, and I didn't cut them big enough counting for all that movement so, the blanks where sanded as far as I could to get them presentable and therefore its square diameter is about 20mm instead of my normal 21mm, with some blanks showing some rough and uneven surfaces but, none of that will compromise the successful making of a pen from them.

When these first processed (while green) blanks are all gone, I will start to make the blanks from the logs that are now showing good signs of dryness, that also means that, they will be back to my normal sizes and straight surfaces finish...!

 The wood is medium to hard density but works very easily, all blanks are coated at one face with wax for colour enhancement for the pictures shown. Wood is dry and ready to go...!
