These blanks were made from 2 dead trees that were planted near a boundary fence and inside an average car tyre. I'm sure that, the intention was not to keep the tyres there forever, as that is always bad news, I believe, they were planted that way, for protection while growing for a couple of years but, the tyres were never remove so, when the trees reached maturity, they became strangled inside the tyres rim, endup killing the tree, eventually.
They were still standing up but, I don't think for much longer, and the property owner became aware of that so, when he decided that, the fence needed to be replaced, he asked us if we would cut the down, as he didn't wanted the new fences to be damage by those trees, at later time.
We wanted the wood, as is a great firewood, hard/dense and burns slowly but, I wanted some to so, I negotiated to take some of the bigger logs home, in exchange to cut all the rest of the usable wood into firewood sizes, for him and that seems a good deal to me.
At the time, I didn't know the species correct name, he was not the person who planted them, that was done about 40 years ago by the previous owner that died some years after those trees were planted and that explains why, the tyres were never removed, even though, was obvious that, someone should have cut them out, before the trees became too big to slide the tyres over the growing canopy...!
With a name "Ironwood", you would think that the wood would be like cement, particularly from dying and drying standing up, but is not, it cuts works and finishes, very easily...!
All blanks have had a coat of wax at one of the blanks' surfaces for colour enhancement, only...!
Thank you for visiting...!
