This is another wood species from my auto-mechanic friend's property in the Australian Fleurieu Peninsula, situated about 55km south from Adelaide, and one place that has only a couple of Sugar Gum trees among hundreds of other Gums trees that, didn't grow as expected with the trunk getting all bent and twisted with also multiple large branches growing very close to the ground, making them look pretty bushy and ugly/useless...!
I was requested to cut them down to have them replaced with something else, with the wood not showing any size and any other characteristic that would want me to keep them for my woodturning.
However, and when making the lowest cuts, I notice that was some burled wood inside and close to the tree base so I cut as low as possible and kept that last foot long log from the base.
Interestingly, were no signs of burl from the outside nor Sugar Gums are much good in producing Burls but these 2, being about 20 years old, had some internal burl formation.
These blanks were stabilised with a red dye and then coated with varnish for enhancement for the pics.
Thank you for visiting...!
