While Apple trees are an introduced species to Australia, many of its varieties are found in most if not all Australian States, South Australia does have a healthy number of Apple trees of all types.
Different Apple tree species tend to produce slightly different wood colours and patterns, it all depends on its age and condition. These McIntosh Apple trees were planted in a small paddock about 40 tears ago, together with many other fruit tree species that produce good fruits for many years until the owners got too old to care for them, allowing some "pests" to infest those tree, particularly Termites.
Most of the fruit trees collected from that place were dead or close to so, with little left of them. There were 4 of these McIntosh Apple trees that were partially dead, all tree in that small paddock had to be removed to allow turning the soil and poison/treat it before new fruit trees would be planted, I was lucky enough to be given the job of cutting them all, dead or not and salvage what I could for my woodworking hobby, and share with you all...!
